By Julien LANCHAS , Friday July 4, 2014
Ireland's Stephen MELEADY is fighting SAENCHAI on August 16th in Cork (Ireland). Here is what he can say about this fight.
Sephen MELEADY : Fighting SAENCHAI is the biggest and hardest fight of my career and it means a lot to me to have this fight back on home soil in front of all my family friends. To get a win against one of the greatest fighter of all time in front of me family and friends would be unreal!
How could you describe this fighter ?
SAENCHAI is an amazing fighter pound for pound the best Muay Thai fighter out there at the moment. His skills are great, really quick left kick, great punching and timing for all his shots. His eyes and vision are great that's why he can avoid shots and doesn't get hit that often.
And you what are your assets ?
My assets are that I have heart of a lion and not afraid of any of the big names that I've fought, always put pressure on them and show them no respect by bringing the fight to them. I have a strong right kick and good right punch which will work well in this fight because SAENCHAI is a south paw. My big asset is my clinching and I have notice SAENCHAI struggles against strong clinching fighters.
How to defeat him ? What is your strategy ?
At the moment I haven't been working on a strategy yet because I have a fight in Lumpinee on the 5th so I have been concentrating on that. But after that I will be doing my homework and working out a strategy for this fight. But I think it will involve going forward and tying him up in the clinch.
You usually fight in Thailand. What do you feel, going back to Ireland and fighting in front of your home crowd ?
It's gonna be amazing going back to fight in front of my home crowd!! I think the roof will nearly lift off when I come out to the ring with the noise of the crowd and the atmosphere will be electric. I have a lot of friends and family going down to watch me perform against the best fighter there is so it is gonna be great!
